Registration for Summer High School courses Held May 30, June 2 and 3 at CEC

Registration for Coweta County’s 2008 High School Summer School will be held Friday, May 30 and on Monday and Tuesday, June 2 and 3, at the Central Educational Center (CEC) in Newnan.

Summer school courses will be held at the CEC campus from Wednesday, June 4 through Friday, June 27. Classes will meet each weekday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fridays.

Driver’s Education is open to all interested students, and a number of academic courses are offered for students who have obtained a high school counselor’s permission. Final course offerings are dependent on student enrollment and on teacher availability.

Students wishing to enroll in summer school should visit their school counselor’s office for permission. Registration packets are available from high school counselors. There will be no early registration at students’ base schools.

Interested students must submit the registration forms, counselor permission forms and payments at the Central Educational Center on registration days, held May 30, June 2 and June 3 between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the CEC lobby.

The courses are tuition-based. Payment must be made by cashier check or money order only, and payment in full is required on the day of registration at CEC.

Tuition for Coweta County Students will be $400 per unit, $200 per ½ unit, and $200 for driver’s education.

Tuition for out-of-county students will be $700 per unit, $400 per ½ unit, and $400 for driver’s education.

Summer school courses are regular high school courses offered in one month of day-long classes, earning students up to one Carnegie Unit of credit toward graduation, depending on the course.

The courses are operated as regular Coweta County high school classes, and daily attendance is required. Make-up sessions will be held on Friday afternoons only. Should there be an emergency absence, the time must be made up immediately.

Transportation to summer school at CEC is not provided.

A school counselor’s signature is required for summer school class. Most summer school courses are for remediation only (course previously attempted, but not passed). However, a course may be taken with a counselor’s permission in a situation where a student was unable to schedule a required class for promotion or where a transfer student to our schools needs a specific course for promotion.

Summer High School courses at CEC are offered to out-of-county students on a space-available basis (priority is given to Coweta County students). Out-of-county students must also provide an official transcript at registration that reflects any courses that are to be re-taken.

Course offerings, depending on demand, include: 9th, Grade Literature/Composition, 10th Grade Literature/Composition, 11th Grade Literature/Composition, 12th Grade Literature/Composition, Concepts of Problem Solving, Concepts of Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Euclidean Geometry, Informal Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Civics, Economics, World History, US History, Spanish 2 and Driver’s Education.

Driver’s Education is the only course offered which is not for remediation only.

More information on summer school offerings can be found at Coweta County High School counseling offices, or by calling Kristy Childers at 770-254-2810 or Allen Rhinehart at 770-254-2870.
