Kindergarten early registration held in May
 

Early registration for new Coweta County Kindergarten students is being held throughout the month May, on different weeks throughout the month depending on which elementary school a child will attend (check the calendar below for details).

New student registration is held from Monday through Friday at the School System’s Central Registration Center at 167 Werz Boulevard in Newnan (call 770-254-5551 for more details, or visit www.cowetaschools.org/registration.

The registration center will also be open throughout the summer months to enroll Kindergarten students and all other students who will be new to Coweta County Schools when the new 2009-10 school year begins on Friday, August 7.

The center’s summer hours will be June and July, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Parents should call the center at 770-254-5551 to schedule an appointment for registration to avoid wait times.

Children must be five years old on or before September 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Children who are enrolled this year in a Coweta County public school Pre-Kindergarten class do not need to re-enroll to begin in Kindergarten next year.

For students new to Coweta County Schools, however, the dates for May Kindergarten early registration at the Central Registration Center are:

  • Brooks, Welch, Western, White Oak and Willis Road - May 4 to May 8
  • Arbor Springs, Arnco-Sargent, Canongate, Glanton, and Thomas Crossroads - May 11 to May 15
  • Jefferson Parkway, Northside, Atkinson, Elm Street and Ruth Hill - May 18 to May 22
  • Eastside, Moreland, Newnan Crossing, and Poplar Road - May 26 to May 29
     

Parents can call call 770-254-2820 to inquire about which elementary school district serves their home.

Kindergarten classes do not have the same enrollment limitations as Pre-Kindergarten classes, and students may be enrolled at any time following early registration. Parents who cannot enroll their child during their school district’s allotted week are urged to call 770-254-5551 to arrange for a summer registration appointment.

Summer hours begin on Monday, June 1, following early Kindergarten registration.

The following items are required to enroll a new student:

  1. Birth Certificate – State-issued, certified copy (hospital certificate not accepted).

  2. Social Security Card

  3. Proof of Residence – two items from the following list are required for address verification:
     

    1. property tax records which indicate the location of the residence;

    2. mortgage documents or a security deed which indicates the location of the residence;

    3. apartment or home lease or rent receipt indicating the current address;

    4. current electrical bill or application for electrical service showing the current address (please bring the entire bill, to show electrical service and address);

    5. voter precinct identification card or other voter documentation indicating the current address.
       

  4. State ID or Drivers License – Must be current (not expired). Students may only be registered by biological parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Proof of custody/guardianship is required if registering adult is not the birth parent.

  5. Custody papers (if relevant) - If parents are divorced they must provide a copy of custody papers. Legal guardian(s) will also have to provide a copy of custody papers. Custodial parent(s)/guardian(s) must live in the appropriate school district.

  6. Last Report Card/Withdrawal/Transfer Form with Grades – (not applicable for newly-enrolled Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten students)

  7. Immunization Certificate – Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) immunization certificate form 3231 or a signed 30-day waiver.

  8. Hearing-Dental-Vision Certificate on Georgia Form 3300 or a signed 120-day waiver.

  9. Authorization for release of IEP or records – If a student is receiving Special Education or Gifted services.

  10. Emergency contact information – Students must have a contact on file by the first day of school.
     

The first eight of the above requirements must be presented at the time of registration.

During the April Pre-K and May and Kindergarten registration period, the Central Registration Center’s hours of operation will be: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursdays: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

After School Programs are also available at Coweta County schools, and parents can inquire about fees and times at their district school.

Registration for limited enrollment Pre-Kindergarten classes during the 2009-10 school year was held in April.
