Coweta County audiences have two Christmas-season musical treats
at the Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts this weekend,
including a Sunday performance of Handel’s Messiah featuring a
75-person chorale accompanied by members of the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra.
On Saturday, December 12, The Broadway Boys will perform at the
Centre. The New York-based vocal ensemble will perform holiday
favorites along with selections from Broadway musicals including
Wicked, Hairspray, Mamma Mia and others.
Through their dynamic vocals and redefining arrangements, the
Broadway Boys add elements of Pop, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, and Folk
to show tunes and classic pop songs. With an extensive roster of
members, but performing in groups of six, the Boys are able to
explore harmonies rarely presented by Broadway singer.
The performance goes on at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12th at
the Lower Fayetteville Road Centre. Tickets are $12 for adults,
$10 for senior citizens and students, and are available at the
Centre, Scott’s Bookstore in Downtown Newnan and Morgan’s
Jewelers in Ashley Park.

On Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m., Coweta’s Masterworks
Chorale will perform Handel’s Messiah, accompanied by an
ensemble from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and directed by
John Dickson, Dean of the Townsend School of Music at Mercer
University.
Also featured during the Sunday concert will be solo
performances by vocalists Celia Jacobs, Virginia Boaz, Richard
Kosowski and Stephen Ozcomert.
The four guest performers “are some of the most outstanding
professional soloists around,” said Don Nixon, Director of the
Centre.
Director John Dickson is considered one of the most sought-after
choral clinicians and conductors in the US, Nixon said, “and he
just finished an extensive professional audition in Atlanta for
a new professional ensemble he has formed, including our
soloists on Sunday.”
In preparation for Sunday’s concert, Dickson has traveled to
Newnan over the past two weeks to work with Coweta’s Masterworks
Chorale and the auditioned high school students who will make up
the 75-person chorus.
“It has been years since the community has heard this section of
Messiah performed locally, and the caliber of these performers
and the performance they’ve prepared is excellent,” said Nixon.
Tickets for Sunday’s performance of the Messiah are $15 for
Adults, $12 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Tickets are
available at the Centre, Scott's Bookstore and Morgan's Jewelers
in Ashley Park.
