Our counselor may see your child in a class setting, a small group, or in an individual basis. A student can ask to see a counselor or the teacher/guardian may refer them. Please know that you will be contacted if your child will participate in small group or long-term individual counseling.
It is important to know that most things discussed will be kept confidential. However, confidentiality cannot be kept if the child: 1. has been hurt; 2. is in danger; and/or 3. might hurt themselves or others. As your school counselors, we will work hard to support the school’s mission and beliefs. We are dedicated to your child’s academic, social/personal, and career development.

Make sure you’re not a silent partner in your child’s education. Children will learn education is important because you, their parents, value it.
10 Tips for the New School Year
- Show you care. Your child needs words of encouragement and your support. Ask your child about each school day.
- Get involved. Try to volunteer in class, chaperone field trips, attend school events, parent-teacher conferences, or whatever school events that you can.
- Build success. Help raise your child’s self-esteem by setting reachable goals and praising your child’s efforts.
- Read, read, read. Read with your child and have him/her read every day. Try to read all handouts and paper your child brings home. Make it fun by talking about what you’ve read that day.
- Make your home a place for learning. Sit with your child as he/she does homework. Help your child practice reading, writing, and math skills.
- Create a routine. Set a time and quiet space for your child to work everyday. Go over homework together.
- Make school a priority. Schedule appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Insist on good attendance and punctuality.
- Expect your child to succeed in school. Children try hard to meet their parents’ expectations.
- Be a role model. Your child learns from you. Be positive about education so they have positive attitudes about school.
- Speak up. If there’s a problem at school, talk to your child’s teacher immediately. Work together to find a solution.
